Up until now, the sequel to the popular Netflix original movie was simply being referred to as Army of the Dead 2. However, it’s long been known that there would be some other title for the movie that would hint at just what audiences can expect to see in the follow-up.

Now that the safe-cracking prequel Army of Thieves has also officially hit Netflix, Snyder apparently felt it was time to shed a bit more light on what fans can expect next, including what they can actually call the third installment. Snyder spoke to Inverse about some behind-the-scenes story beats when it came to Army of the Dead and Army of Thieves. In talking about those two projects he also let it slip that the next movie in the series is going to be called Planet of the Dead. So far, beyond the title, there isn’t a ton known about where the story is going to go, or for that matter, how it’s going to get there.

One aspect of Planet of the Dead would seem to be that it’s going to have a mostly new cast. Most of the gang that went into Las Vegas to try and pull off a heist in the middle of a zombie horde were killed off in a rather brutal fashion. However, Snyder did also hint that there might be at least one person who might be coming back to take on the surprisingly smart zombies that populated Army of the Dead. Snyder said that there was a chance that Dieter - the only character to make an appearance in both films - could also pop up in the third one. He admitted that the audience didn’t see Zeus kill him, so there’s a chance he’s not dead just yet.

While Planet of the Dead seems to hint that the Las Vegas outbreak has spread, there is a chance that the story could be traveling to a whole other planet. Not long after Army of the Dead was released, Snyder made it clear that there were robots embedded in the horde and admitted those robots could hint at aliens being behind the undead.

Just what Army of the Dead’s plot will entail is still unknown. However, one has to wonder if viewers might get to see even more zombie animals in Planet of the Dead.
