Yu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duel was first revealed during last June’s “Yu-Gi-Oh! Digital Next” streaming event alongside updates for Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links, Master Duel, and Rush Duel. Cross Duel was presented as taking a different approach from the standard Yu-Gi-Oh! style, presenting the gameplay as a four-player free-for-all similar to an iconic duel from the first anime. Cross Duel features a tag team system with characters from throughout Yu-Gi-Oh’s history, allowing players to pair up with Yugi Muto, Jaden Yuki, and Jack Atlas among others.

A second trailer uploaded alongside the release date reveal dives more into the game modes of Cross Duel, covering single-player, tag duels, and the four-player co-op mode. Single player feature players matched against three AI-controlled opponents, moving their monsters along a linear grid to deal damage. Tag Duels feature players teaming up with a partner with combined Life Point totals. Raid Duels feature all four players teaming up to take down a massive imposing boss monster in the center of the stage, while sending monsters at your allies will heal them.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duel’s release comes following a somber time in the Yu-Gi-Oh! community as fans mourn the loss of Yu-Gi-Oh!’s creator, Kazuki Takahashi. Takahashi was revealed to have passed away in early July with fans mourning the loss of the manga artist and card game creator. While Takahashi would pen several stories before coming to Yu-Gi-Oh!, the story about Egyptian gods and card battles would be the artist’s most successful work. Cross Duel will look to carry on the legacy of the Yu-Gi-Oh! creator when it releases in September.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duel will release on September 6th, 2022 for mobile devices.
