Clubhouse has finally launched Web Listening. The update allows you to drop in and listen to audio conversations even if you don’t have the app or an account.
Keep reading to find out how Clubhouse’s new feature works and how it could benefit you.
Clubhouse Launches a Web Listening Feature
Web Listening allows you to listen to conversations in audio Rooms from your mobile phone or desktop, without having to log in.
You can listen to Clubhouse conversations even if you don’t have an account, without having to go through the hassle of downloading the app.
Clubhouse announced the launch of the feature in a blog post. They noted that it will make it easier for those returning to work and school to listen to discussions:
The launch of Web Listening is particularly important. Before this, you could only listen to Clubhouse conversations on the mobile app.
By expanding the number of ways you can listen to conversations, Clubhouse is allowing you to try the platform before downloading the app.
How Clubhouse’s Web Listening Feature Works
Clubhouse’s Web Listening feature allows you to listen to Replays of discussions and discussions in live Rooms. It works on most major browsers. All you have to do is click on a link to a discussion on Clubhouse, which will launch in your browser, and start listening.
Since you wouldn’t be joining the discussion as a Clubhouse member, you won’t have a profile icon, unlike an app user. That means you cannot take part in any discussions, and can only listen in instead.
You can only listen to some discussions via the web. The creator needs to have enabled Replays in the corresponding Room. The Replays feature lets you listen to recordings of conversations on the app at a later stage.
Clubhouse is rolling out Web Listening to users in the US first in January 2022. It plans to expand support to more countries and to cover more Room types and other parts of the full Clubhouse experience in the future.
Clubhouse Is Expanding Its Accessibility
Clubhouse infamously launched as an invite-only app. And since launching, it has required users to sign in to join a conversation taking place on the platform.
However, it has made some noteworthy changes in the past year that have stripped it of its exclusivity, making it more welcoming to new listeners.
With the launch of Web Listening, Clubhouse is giving even more people access to its content and platform. You’ll no longer have the hassle of having to either download the app or commit by signing up. This could help the platform grow with more people trying the service and going on to download the app based on their experience.
