This is the first significant update the Blend tool has received since its launch in the summer of 2021, and it will help you and your family and friends enjoy each other’s musical tastes.

What Is Blend?

Blend is a Spotify feature that lets you create playlists with friends and family, and the service will automatically generate a list based on both your interests. Launched in 2021, Blended playlists update daily with new songs based on the listening habits of its members, although the playlists are limited to 50 tracks.

The blended playlists allow people to discover new tracks, albums, and artists that all members enjoy. By sharing Blend playlists with more people, you’ll get a wider selection of music to listen to.

How Does the Spotify Blend Upgrade Work?

As detailed on For the Record, Spotify’s Blend update allows you to create playlists with up to ten people and some of your favorite artists.

The announcement lists a few fantastic artists that have agreed to be part of this expansion, including BTS, Kacey Musgraves, Lauv, Megan Thee Stallion, Diplo, Charli XCX, Mimi Webb, Tai Verdes, and others.

How to Create a Blend With Friends

Creating a Blend is super easy to do with friends and family. You can add up to ten people to your Blend. The music is generated automatically based on what everyone is listening to, so the playlist gets updated daily, adding in new songs and taking out others.

While a Premium subscription with Spotify is not needed to make these Blended playlists, all participants must have a Spotify account, so make sure they’re all signed up for one.

Here’s what you have to do:

Launch the Spotify app or load the service in your browser. Select the Search tab in Spotify and type in the word Blend. Select the Blend genre. Select Create a Blend. Press the Invite button to get a link you can share. Send the link to whomever you want to and wait for them to accept the invitation. Once they do, Spotify generates a new playlist for the group and updates it with whatever music you all like.

Everyone involved will get a custom share card that they can use on social media.

How to Create a Blend With an Artist

The update also allows you to create Blends with artists you like. The whole process is pretty simple, but these playlists will only be between you and your favorite artist, so you won’t be able to integrate the artist with your friends.

All you’re going to need to do is click on the artist’s link, and then Spotify will create the playlist for you. Here are the available artists:

AB6IX Angèle Badshah Benjamin Ingrosso Bennett Coast BE:FIRST BTS Camilo Charli XCX CRO Diplo JO1 Kacey Musgraves Kim Loaiza Lauv Megan Thee Stallion Mimi Webb NiziU Tai Verdes Xamã

Clicking on the links is the fastest way to get the invitation to create a blended playlist with your favorite artists. Alternatively, you can also find these links on their social media accounts.

There is another way to create a Blend with artists:

Search for the artist’s name on Spotify. Select the artist’s profile. Find the Artist pick section. On desktop, look to the right of the Popular songs section. On mobile, scroll past their most popular songs. Follow the link to create a Blend with them.

Not all artists have this section available as they have not yet joined this new Spotify feature. If no link is available, it means you have to wait longer and hope they’ll join in.

Once you do this, you get a share card that shows how your tastes in music match, with scores and songs that bring you together.

Blending Spotify Playlists Aids Music Discovery

With the Spotify Blend update, you can finally start playlists with most of your family and friends. They’re easy to create and share, so you’ll soon figure out exactly what everyone’s taste in music is like. We’re sure you’ll love some tracks more than others, but you can always skip them.

Spotify is a great service to discover new music, but it can be hard to remember everything you’ve listened to in the past with so many tracks. Thankfully, it’s not that difficult to see exactly what you’ve listened to on Spotify.
