Cespedes, who has been dealing with quad pain since at least July 7,  was spotted at a golf course with MLB Network analyst and former major leaguer Kevin Millar on Wednesday. The All-Star was in the Mets’ starting lineup for the first time since Thursday, but during his last at-bat, Cespedes was in noticeable pain. He said after the game he felt discomfort after taking a swing.

“It’s been frustrating because I’ve lost my timing, we’ve lost games and I haven’t been able to contribute to the ball club,” Cespedes said through a translator about his injury.

Cespedes owns a .292 average, 22 homers and 59 RBIs this season for the Mets, who fell to 55-52 with the loss. The 2015 National League champions are 8 1/2 games behind the Nationals in the NL East.

Outfielder Brandon Nimmo was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill Cespedes’ spot on the roster.
