Is This TikTok’s Final Deadline?

TikTok had until December 4 to finalize a deal with an American company or face a potential ban in the US. That deadline has passed with no action taken on either side.

A report by Reuters revealed that TikTok is still working with the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) “to complete the divestment and other steps necessary to resolve national security risks.”

TikTok has been in talks with Oracle and Walmart to complete a sale, but there’s been no word on its progress. Trump approved of the deal “in concept,” but China still needs to express its approval.

The deadline for TikTok’s ban has been extended several times since Trump’s executive order to ban the app in August. Another extension of the deadline isn’t expected, but it likely won’t mean the end of the TikTok saga.

TikTok’s Future Still Remains Uncertain

The clock has run out for TikTok, but the app has yet to face any real consequences. TikTok’s future may be left up to the next administration when President-elect Joe Biden takes office in January 2021.
